In today's difficult economic times, being a single mom is an extremely difficult job. For getting these grants, you are required to follow through an application procedure, which may take over a week. However, once you have successfully met all the requirements, you will be allowed to start schools immediately. The general requirements of government grants for single mothers include:

  • having your social security number
  • a diploma from high school or general education development certificate or approved ability to benefit test
  • enrolled as a student in a degree program
In addition to these general requirements, your eligibility may also depend on the income tax of individuals who are dependent on you (children, parents etc). So basically, if you are a young mother with well-off parents, your application might not be the top priority of the federal government, as the goal of government is to accommodate as many deserving citizens as possible. Your own income tax is also a determining factor for the board. So if a single mother has a high income tax is approved for the program, she may be granted a smaller amount of money.
